Final featured Artist for 2011 - Micheline Robinson

Micheline Robinson

Micheline studied film animation at Concordia University in Montreal and Fine Arts at Ottawa University. Her artwork is held in private and corporate collections in the US, Canada, Australia, France, Spain, Taiwan and the UK. Her work can be viewed at Lark Lane Atelier in Liverpool and she recently exhibited in Malta (July-August) with the Mirca Tour for Human Rights (opened by former Judge, Giovanni Bonello of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg).

She is the founder and chair of Wirral Art and of the Wirral Open Studio Tour.

Art by Micheline Robinson

"I am an artist, but also a mother of three. The realities of motherhood; the emotions and thoughts that follow are woven into the fabric of my creations. A childhood spent connecting with nature is also apparent in my work. The artworks focus on a relationship between life and its natural surroundings; abstraction of shapes and dynamics that have been absorbed in my mind.

I try to alternate between two painting styles, as I seek a balance between them. One is calculated, methodical and planned: I see the finished painting in my head before I even apply paint to canvas. The other method is instinctual, similar to the Inuit sculptor, who works with a piece of soapstone to discover the animal hiding within. Contrasting colours and organic shapes develop as the painting grows, with a goal of harmony, and a search for balance. It is an adventure in two dimensions, that when finished, offers the viewer a complexity of visuals, and hours of meditative pleasure."

Featured Artists - Tommy McHugh and Ann Lewis

Tommy McHugh

Tommy McHugh was a Liverpool builder. Following simultaneous haemorrhages on either side of his brain, in 2001 he has become a prolific artist. His activity and output continues to astound the medical and art worlds alike.

Since his brain-injury, he has been driven to constantly create artworks in a variety of media. He makes work from whatever materials are available: paint, pastels, feathers, stone, wood, metal, wax and clay. His house is his studio, and he uses floors, ceilings, and walls as his canvas.

Particularly fascinated by faces, Tommy often 'hides' images in his pieces, waiting, as he puts it for the viewer's, 'unconscious - creativity' to play its part.

He says of his experience, "My mind is like a volcano exploding with bubbles and each bubble contains a million other bubbles, and then another million bubbles of unstoppable creative ideas".

Tommy has been the subject of numerous TV documentaries on the nature of creativity.

Ann Lewis

"I am a practicing artist and housewife with a background in Graphic Design.  I have a great appreciation of art production in various media, although currently I am focused on drawing.

Drawing is one of the most fundamental activities in art. It is an ongoing practice that can be experimented with in so many ways.  An age old discipline to be loved and explored from the simplest of ideas to more complex expressions."

" An experience that holds no bounds....."
